When these homeowners in Swedesboro, New Jersey contacted PCT Outdoor Living, their existing deck had reached the end of its service life and was becoming a growing safety concern for their family. With young children regularly using the space, they wanted a deck that was not only beautiful but engineered to provide exceptional structural integrity and long-term reliability.

To make the process as seamless as possible, our team managed every aspect of the project, including permitting, architectural drawings, engineering, demolition, and construction.

The Solution

After removing the existing deck, we constructed a new 20' x 12' composite deck featuring a 4' x 4' intermediate landing and a 4-foot-wide staircase, creating a safe and comfortable transition into the backyard.

The deck was built using helical pile footings, 6x6 pressure-treated posts, triple 2x10 beams, and 2x8 joists framed 12 inches on center to provide maximum structural strength and long-term stability.

The homeowners selected Deckorators Summit in Boulder with a contrasting Dark Slate picture frame border, creating a clean, modern appearance. The decking was installed using CAMO hidden fasteners with color-matched plug screws, leaving the finished surface free of visible fasteners.

For the railing system, we installed RDI Level railing topped with a Dark Slate cocktail rail, combining safety with a functional surface for entertaining.

To elevate the finished appearance, we wrapped the deck using 5/8-inch PVC trim, including the staircase risers and the sides of the stringers. Unlike thinner trim materials, 5/8-inch PVC is more rigid and less susceptible to expansion and contraction, helping maintain crisp lines and a premium finish for years to come. The staircase was also picture-framed, giving it a refined, custom-built look that complements the overall design.
