Project Overview
The Goal
The homeowners wanted to transform a bare, unused backyard into a true outdoor living space — one that could handle everything from quiet evenings to weekend entertaining. The vision was a covered deck for year-round use paired with a ground-level paver patio that could serve as a natural extension of the home.
What We Built
This project combined two of our most popular services into one cohesive outdoor living system: a large covered deck with premium composite decking and a custom paver patio flowing directly beneath it.
The deck features two-tone Trex composite decking, with contrasting dark and medium brown tones running across the field boards and stair treads. The two-tone detail adds visual depth and a custom, tailored look that sets it apart from a standard single-color installation. The decking connects to white vinyl railing with sleek black metal spindles — a combination that's both sharp and low-maintenance, standing up to South Jersey's seasons without painting, staining, or sealing.
The covered structure overhead includes a beadboard ceiling with recessed LED lighting and a ceiling fan, making the space genuinely usable in the heat of summer and on cool fall nights. White columns and clean trim tie the structure back to the home's exterior seamlessly.
Stairs descend from the deck directly onto a large paver patio installed at grade. The tan and beige pavers are laid in a classic ashlar pattern with a contrasting dark border, grounding the space and giving it a finished, intentional look. The patio provides plenty of room for a grill setup, fire pit, and additional seating — all flowing naturally out from under the deck.
The Details
Decking: Trex composite, two-tone (dark/medium brown)
Railing: White vinyl with black metal spindles
Ceiling: Beadboard with recessed LED lighting and ceiling fan
Patio: Tumbled concrete pavers in ashlar pattern with dark border
Location: Mullica Hill, NJ
The Result
What was once a dirt backyard is now one of the most-used rooms in the house — just without the walls. The covered structure gives the homeowners protection from the elements, while the open patio below offers flexible space that grows with how they use it. The two-tone Trex decking and black spindle railing give the whole project a custom, high-end look that holds up without the upkeep.
