Project Spotlight: Custom Paver Patio & Backyard Gathering Space

The Vision

When these homeowners in Woolwich, New Jersey reached out to us, they wanted to create a more usable and inviting backyard space for their family. Their goal was to bring outdoor living down to ground level — creating an area where they could comfortably sit around a fire pit, relax outdoors, and keep an eye on their children playing in the yard.

Beyond functionality, they wanted the space to feel clean, intentional, and built to last while blending naturally with the existing deck and backyard layout.

What We Built

To bring their vision to life, we designed and installed a custom Techo-Bloc paver patio using Eva Textured 3-piece stone, creating a versatile outdoor space designed for both everyday use and entertaining.

As with every paver project we build, long-term durability started with proper site preparation. We excavated the area approximately 5 inches below grade to establish a solid foundation and ensure proper performance over time. We then installed 3/4” clean stone in compacted 2-inch lifts, creating a stable base designed to minimize movement and settlement while providing excellent drainage.

Above the foundation, we installed a 3/8” chip stone bedding layer to create a smooth, properly leveled surface for the pavers. The patio was finished with polymeric sand in all joints, helping lock the system together while reducing weed growth and joint washout over time.

To improve both functionality and appearance, we added a raised retaining wall area designed specifically for trash can storage, helping create a cleaner and more organized backyard while keeping utility items visually separated from the entertaining space.

To tie the backyard together, we also installed edging stone to create a clean separation between the elevated deck area and the patio space, finishing the transition with 3/8” pea gravel for added definition and drainage. These finishing touches help the entire outdoor area feel cohesive and intentionally designed.

Most importantly, the homeowners now have a durable, low-maintenance outdoor space that feels intentional, organized, and built for years of enjoyment.
