The Vision

When these homeowners in Sicklerville, New Jersey reached out to us, they had one clear goal: replace an aging, deteriorating deck and create an outdoor space they could truly enjoy. Their existing deck had become worn and rotted over time, and they envisioned a backyard that felt like a natural extension of their home — functional, beautiful, and designed for everyday living.

More importantly, they wanted a space that could be enjoyed beyond the summer months. The goal was to create a covered, screened-in outdoor living area that would allow them to comfortably enjoy the outdoors for three seasons out of the year while improving the overall functionality and appearance of their backyard.

What We Built

To bring their vision to life, we designed and built a 25’ x 16’ elevated composite deck paired with a fully covered screened-in porch system, creating a space that feels more like an outdoor living room than a traditional deck.

For the decking, we installed Deckorators Voyage Costa decking accented with a Dark Slate picture frame border, creating warmth, contrast, and a refined custom look. The picture frame detail helps define the perimeter of the deck while adding a polished finish that immediately elevates the overall appearance of the space.

To finish the lower portion of the deck, we framed the perimeter using 2x4 pressure-treated framing and installed lattice skirting trimmed in PVC boards, giving the structure a clean, finished appearance while maintaining airflow beneath the deck.

Above the deck, we constructed a full roof structure covering the entire space, transforming it into a true outdoor retreat. The ceiling was finished with Synergy ceiling material in the Mocha color, adding warmth and texture while complementing the tones of the decking below.

To maximize comfort and functionality, we installed eight recessed lights throughout the ceiling for ambient nighttime lighting along with two ceiling fans to improve airflow during warmer weather. Since the homeowners wanted to extend the seasonal use of the space, we enclosed the porch using the ScreenEze screening system and added a glass entry door, creating a comfortable outdoor environment without the inconvenience of insects.

Every structural detail was carefully finished for a high-end appearance, including PVC-wrapped beams and posts throughout the structure, creating a clean, low-maintenance finish built to withstand the elements for years to come.

To tie the entire backyard together, we expanded the outdoor living space even further with a 25’ x 20’ Techo-Bloc paver patio installed in Cafe Crema with a charcoal border. The contrasting border complements the darker accents used throughout the deck and porch while adding visual definition to the patio area. A four-foot-wide staircase seamlessly connects the elevated deck to the patio below, making movement between the spaces natural and functional.

What started as a deteriorating deck became a fully transformed outdoor living environment designed for comfort, functionality, and long-term enjoyment. The combination of premium composite decking, a screened-in porch, custom ceiling finishes, and an integrated paver patio created a backyard that feels intentional in every detail.

Most importantly, the homeowners now have a space they can comfortably enjoy for much of the year — whether relaxing under the covered porch, entertaining guests, or simply enjoying the outdoors in comfort.
